FUNDING HOPE

Why?

Providing Hope to a Community

On September 29, 2013, I attended a prayer meeting during missions week at our church.  As I was praying, the Lord seemed to speak very clearly, "Build a medical clinic in Latin America."  I was stunned and silent, then finally asked, "Where, Lord?"  The answer was simply to search Google for the poorest place in Latin America.  The poorest Spanish-speaking country south of the United States turned out to be Nicaragua.  In addition, the prompting seemed to include a mental image of a clinic that eventually included a school, and the area was rural.

After approaching my husband and then our pastor, Bruce McCarty, we sent a proposal to Springfield.  Officials there put us in touch with the head missionaries of Nicaragua, Levys and Bonnie Hernandez.  They were initially skeptical, then prayed about it, warmed to the idea, and located a rural community with a strong Assembly of God church.  The people of La Ceiba Dudu were two hours from any form of medical care and without even electricity and running water.  They had begun praying for a medical clinic around the very time I was inspired.  Our church has sent a team there three times since early 2014.  We funded and shipped a prefabricated, self-contained clinic, and we supervised the construction of a pharmacy and essential accompanying apartments, completed in August of 2016.  A Christian physician and nurse began seeing patients in December and are gaining the trust of the community.  God heard the cries of the poor Christians in La Ceiba Dudu, and He provided their town with the medical care they requested.

A Clinic Focused on Basic Needs

In, 2014, I traveled to La Ceiba, Nicaragua with some members of my church.  We went there on a mission to find a community that needed assistance in regard to medical needs.  We found a group of people who were visionary, filled with initiative, but lacking in resources.  in this mountainous community and surrounding areas there are about 15-20 thousand people who love God and want to serve Him.  Owasso First Assembly of God has purchased a mobile clinic staffed with a doctor and nurse that provides a level of medical care that was never available.  Already lives have been saved and diseases have been controlled for many individuals.  The clinic is a source of life and hope both physically and spiritually.  The clinic operates in partnership with the church and the doctor and nurse utilise their position to shine God's light to the patients they serve.  This is a beautiful missionary endeavour.

Connections

A Christian Doctor Can Change the Community

The residents of the area do not have much in the way of financial resources and this project requires outside help.   Levys and Bonnie Hernadez are our connection.  They are the directors of Latin America  Childcare for Nicaragua with over 25 schools and hundreds of students.   They have been the glue that has connected together the people and the clinic.   They are AG missionaries and have a deep understanding of the culture and the requirements to make this completely operational within the Nicaraguan guidelines.  There time and effort has brought a qualified doctor and nurse to this region.  They continue to make connections for us with dentists and others within the medical community.
